Damn, Making Video Games Is Hard? - Nicky's Dev Journal (#4)
"A good video game is really cool but a bad one sucks forever." - Shigeru Miyamoto
I'm pretty sure that's the quote. Anyway, I have put away my current game project and have replaced it with: nothing. I gotta take a break and I really do mean it this time (the first post about this project mentions how I'm approaching burnout lol)!!
I'm disappointed but feeling good about the decision. I think I'm just not built for game jams! There's just too much to do, too much that goes into a game. And I still know so little about this stuff, so my ability to problem-solve quickly just isn't there yet. I feel like I got a lot of needed practice this month though, so it wasn't a waste of time or anything. I'm looking forward to bringing my new bit of confidence into the next GB Studio project (the one I told myself I'm not allowed to even think about right now).
Honestly, the hardest thing about the project was deciding to give up on it temporarily. I'm really starting to worry about how much I can't turn off the part of my brain that needs to be continously working on something. It was very useful for a while but now I can't just sit and listen to a record or something, I have to also be painting or writing or organizing or or or or or
I managed to slow down a bit today though. Stood outside in the rain and thought for a while.
