FM Is Fickle
They said it couldn't be done! They said it wasn't worth trying! They said it was a waste of time! But I am here to tell you that they're all wrong: you can program the Korg Volca fm2 directly on the machine. All those people saying those things were right when they said it's just as bad, if not worse, than the DX7 in terms of intuitiveness. But who cares about being intuitive! All that matters with synthesizers is you need to be queer and/or a little fucked in the head and that will overcome any lack of intuition. I'm a miserable faggot, so I had a patch going in no time (I'm allowed to say it).
Well, a few hours, not really "no time". A few solid hours of tinkering and wondering what the hell Level Scale Break Point is, why won't this operator stop sustaining that harsh overtone, things of that nature... And then? Once I had something beautiful and interesting? I play some chords into my 4 track recorder and then immediately fuck the patch up by... I don't even know how. I bumped some knob or something. I just doesn't sound the same! I spent the last hour trying to get it back to sounding like this little test recording, but no dice. FM is fickle as hell... but I'm still determined to tame it. Not tonight though, it seems.
Take a listen to my brief glimpse behind the curtain. Sample it or something.
