Cool Tapes: Stuck in a Loop

I had been stuck for the past month up till yesterday of wanting desperately to make music but only being able to make a couple 8 or 16 bar loops that went nowhere. I would make loops, quit, then come back to make more with less enthusiasm. I told my good friend and Dial-a-Pod cohost Meys about this on Sunday and he said "Don't be afraid of loops" and told me to listen to Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper. I did. Nice album! Don't know why I hadn't gotten into this before. I thought about what else has loops, and I threw Trans-Europe Express on the turntable. Damn. I forgot loops could be good. I then forced myself to take a simple loop and make anything out of it, even if it was bad. It just needed to be finished.

It's not a masterpiece but it's done. I am no longer afraid of the loop.
