It's Our Turn Now

Lots of talk about “vibe shifts” these days. They’re happening more and more, so it makes sense. I think we in America immediately sensed things being different post-election, even though it’s been business as usual like always. It’s in the wind though. You can smell it.

An online example: people are finally, FINALLY, leaving X in numbers that are making the news. Unfortunately, everyone seems to be fleeing to the sequel to X, Bluesky. There’s a sense of a positive vibe shift there, but this is simply the honeymoon phase with a social media platform that just got a big bundle of cash from some crypto ghouls and has always been modeled after X (replicating both the good & the bad). I’m probably more cynical than most but regardless, this website/app is not the savior people want it to be. No social media can be, in my humble imo.

Earlier this morning, I listened to the latest episode of Knowledge Fight, covering the incredible saga of The Onion buying InfoWars and Alex Jones’ live reaction to this terrible-for-him news throughout the day on Thursday. Co-host of the show Jordan said this at the very end: “It feels like… now it’s our turn. You know, like, we’ve been playing a game, and… it’s all been everybody else’s turn, we’ve just been watching stuff happen, and now their turn is ended. Now it’s our turn. I don’t know what we’re gonna do, but it’s our turn… The election, the auction [of InfoWars to The Onion] are done. Everybody’s at the same spot now! It feels like we’re all in a brand new future.”

I know what he’s talking about. And he’s right.

I’ve wanted it to be our turn so bad. They’ve had their turn for way too long and I don’t think they should have it for a much longer while. It’s our fucking turn because we can make it so. Have fun with Bluesky until it dies the same death Twitter did. But don’t forget it’s our turn and that we can’t really do anything with our turn on social media, you know?
