Drawing Like An 11 Year Old
Like I said earlier today on Bluesky, "i like to dabble in as many art forms as i can. i need lots of outlets for my brain problems". One of these outlets as of late has been cartooning! Yep, that' s right, I'm dabbling in doodling. I'm doodledabbling.
It used to be my main outlet, back when I was like 5 or 6. My dream was to have my own comic strip one day, like my favorite Calvin & Hobbes books I would check ut from the library over and over. I stopped drawing every day obsessively when I was 10, 11. Long story (loooong story), but life happens. My drawing ability has kind of fossilized around what it was at the time I stopped so now, at 28 trying to pick it back up again for fun, my hand's giving me 11yo Nicky lines & shapes. I haven't seen some of these shapes in a long time. It's nice to see them once again.
Today's doodles are mostly... I won't say bad, because all practice is good. I only feel willing to share one little comic/doodle from today lol:
I asked an artist I admire for tips and among the various bits of advice is the most important—"never stop drawing basically". You can't improve by sitting around and wishing it were so! Even though I wish it were so. So, like my new blog-a-day project, I'm going to draw at least one thing a day, a quick doodle on a napkin counts. Eventually, I'll be able to draw like a 12 year old!
Nicky Flowers - I'd stop at 13 though. Don't wanna draw TOO good. - 11/25/24 - (send any comments/questions to hello at nickyflowers dot com)
