The Power of Two Cubs Fans
Ran into a Chicago Cubs fan while running an errand today. I could tell by how miserable he was and how much he hated life. No, actually it was just his jacket with the logo on it. I said "Go Cubs", because I think you're obligated to do that when you're in different part of the country and you see a fellow freak. We struck up a quick conversation.
We mostly talked about how Kyle Tucker was not enough to get the job done this off-season and how Jed Hoyer needed to, to use my new friend's words, "remember how to dial the phone and make some damn calls". I liked this energy. Yeah, man. Why haven't you done a better job getting some deals done? Can't figure out the dang phone? You look at your phone and you just don't know where to begin? Jed? Jed the Phone Fool?
This energy may have properly diffused into the universe (baseball works on nonsense like that) because later in the day, I checked my usual baseball blogs and saw news of the Cubs trading Cody Bellinger to the loser Yankees. Jed apparently also said at one point "We're not done." He figured out the phone!! Sure, all he got in return this time was a different, worse Cody and some cash considerations. But he did figure it out.
Thanks, guy I met outside today. All Cubs fans everywhere: thank that guy I met today for freeing up Bellinger's contract and for joining me in blasting Jed Hoyer with a beam of energy that made him remember how to use the phone. You all owe us one.
